PYHO: Her Legacy Lives On

This weekend was a weekend I’ve been looking forward to since going back to school. At the end of the summer, it was so hard to say goodbye to the people I’d spent my entire summer with, especially knowing we were all going to different places across the country from each other and that it would be months before we’d see each other again. This weekend was the weekend that we would finally all be reunited. And that was only part of the reason why this would be a special weekend. There were so many amazing things happening this weekend it was hard to know what to look forward to the most.

As luck would have it (actually I have no doubt that it had nothing to do with luck and everything to do with this weekend being meant to be), I didn’t have classes Friday so I was able to fly home Thursday night and begin preparing for the weekend ahead.

The first event was Friday night at my high school homecoming game. Last year, Anna was crowned Homecoming Queen for our high school. Tradition serves that last years queen crowns the new queen every year. This year, our high school asked me if I would do the honor of crowning the queen in Anna’s memory. To say I was honored would be an understatement. I had hoped, knowing this tradition, that they would at least honor Anna in some way but I had never anticipated being asked to be involved. Of course, every part of me wished that I was there watching her do it herself, but it meant a lot to me that they asked me to do it in her memory. I know Anna was proud. The girl that won told me she really felt Anna's presence through me, and that meant so much to me that I can help carry on Anna's spirit.

By Friday night 4 of Anna’s friends were in town and amazing reunions were had. I really didn't realize how much I missed them until I realized how happy I was being back with them. These people are my favorite people, but that is a whole other blog post in itself. The best part was it felt like we had never left each other. It felt so normal and so right to be back at my house hanging out like we did all summer.

Saturday was an early day but for an awesome reason. Children’s Hospital, where Anna was treated, holds a Red Balloon Race every year. One of Anna’s classmates started “Team Float On” in Anna’s honor, so we all went to support the team. It was really amazing to see all the people who came out to honor Anna.
Our team tent was definitely the best looking one out there!
Me and the friends of Anna's who had arrived so far.

By Saturday night, everyone was finally back together! My cousin Becca came in for the weekend and the rest of Anna’s friends had arrived.

The entire weekend just being together with so many of my favorite people was obviously fantastic, but Sunday was possibly the best day ever. Anna’s favorite band was Manchester Orchestra. On the last good night of her life, after high school graduation, she went to see them in concert, got brought up on stage and serenaded by the lead singer. The look on her face when she got home that night was one of pure joy; she could not stop gushing about how nice they were, how amazing everything was, and how they invited her to Lollapalooza. She even joked that she and Andy were getting married (never mind that he's already married!). She thought the world of the band, and the feeling was mutual. They were so touched by meeting Anna they came out to play a few songs privately for her friends and family after her memorial service this summer. Since then, we have kept in touch with them and established a really great relationship with them.

This weekend, they were playing in Dallas, so of course we got tickets. However, not only did we get tickets to go to the show, but we invited the whole band to our house to hang out for awhile. There are no words to describe how awesome this was. Not only were we partying with rock stars, but the coolest, nicest, most down to earth rock stars you will ever meet in your life. They were genuinely so grateful to us for having them over, and they really made an effort to get to know all of us. One moment that really stuck out to me was when a few of Anna’s friends and I were talking to their drummer, Tim, and he was recalling meeting Anna and how much it changed him. He talked about how she has completely changed all of their lives and the direction their band wants to take. “I have a picture of her up on the fridge,” he told us, “and I look at it everyday and think about her.” Amazing proof of what an impact Anna had on so many people.  As if that wasn’t enough, he also went around and asked each of us to share how we knew Anna. He genuinely wanted to know how each one of us had been a part of Anna’s life. Simply unbelievable and truly amazing is the only way I can think to sum it up.

The group with the band
Except it gets better. After spending the day getting to know this awesome band, we went to see them play that night. I will admit that up until about a week ago, I was only a Manchester Orchestra fan in theory. I knew a few songs, but most of those were the songs Andy played after Anna’s memorial. But thanks to a friend (shout out, Zach), I sought out more of their music and researched what they’d been playing on tour lately. It would have been an amazing concert regardless if I had ever heard any of the songs before, but after listening to the Manchester Orchestra playlist I created every day for the last week or so, I was easily singing along to almost every song. Pretty impressive, I’d say, for someone who used to tell Anna to listen to “good music” when she’d play bands like Manchester Orchestra. I have no doubt that she was so proud of me during that concert. It may seem like a small thing to say she has changed me because I enjoy her type of music now, but it is just one more way in which she has influenced me and everyone else who knew her.

To say the concert was amazing would be an understatement. Hands down the best concert I’ve ever been to is more like it. What is even more amazing, though is that they invited us to come hangout with them backstage after the show. As we were leaving, I had a conversation with two of the band members that I will never forget. "I don't think you know how much you mean to Anna's friends and family," one of her friends told them. I will never forget their response. "If anything," they told us, "It is the other way around. You all mean so much to us and Anna truly changed our lives and we are forever grateful." Simply amazing how much she changed their lives after only meeting them once.
2 of Anna's best friends, our cousin and I with the most amazing band ever.

It was impossible to go through this weekend and especially Sunday night with the band without thinking about Anna and how she is the reason for all of this. It truly makes me believe in the phrase I once hated; "everything happens for a reason". There was a reason Anna was healthy enough to make it to that concert that night, even though her health declined rapidly after that. There was a reason that she met the band. I've always said her purpose in life was to change lives. It was clearer than ever this weekend to see how she did that. Not only did she change her friends and family, but millions of other people including this amazing band who will continue to change people because of her. There is nothing that can replace her or take away the pain of losing her, but it sure does it make you think twice about being sad about it. I am so thankful that my eyes have been opened to see her purpose and how even almost 6 months after she passed away, her legacy of changing lives carries on.

These are the Moments I'll Never Forget.

Last Friday night was my very first exec retreat for my sorority. (For those of you that don't speak "Greek" the exec retreat is where the president and all the VP's plus advisers meet to discuss new ideas for the upcoming semester). I am proud to now be a member of the exec board, serving as the VP Communications. Going into the retreat, I was nervous. Would they like my new ideas? Would they think I'm doing a good job? What will it be like? Well, by the end of the night not only was I no longer nervous but I realized that that night would be one I'll never forget.

Although the night was serious for the most part, when you put a bunch of girls in a room together for a long period of time, you can't expect to not have any fun! There was lots of laughter, lots of funny things said, and many good times shared. I can honestly say I was amazed at how much fun I was having. There is something truly special about a group of powerful women all sharing ideas and brainstroming together and having fun while doing it. I am lucky to be a part of this group of amazing women.

After the serious part of the retreat was over, we stayed up for hours talking. Talking about boys (you're never too old for that!), swapping stories, and talking about why we joined this amazing chapter that we are so lucky to be a part of. As I was sitting there, I realized it didn't matter how tired I was, it didn't matter that it was 3 AM. These are the moments that I know I'll look back on one day and say "I miss that." One day I'll miss staying up late, talking and laughing. I'll miss being able to walk down the hall and see any one of my amazing sisters. I'll miss this...

Luckily, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon and I can only imagine the amount of memories I'll have like this by the time I graduate. As hard as it is being away from my family right now, these amazing women make it easy, and for that I am so lucky.

A Personal Ad

So in case you didn't know I am single, really really single as in the only males I ever talk to are someone elses boyfriend, guys that may or may not be gay, and guys that I could never see as anything more than platonic. So, in light of all this I have decided to take out a personal ad on my blog. I know what you're thinking... lame, and who meets anyone on the internet?! But it's not what you think...

My personal ad I'm taking out here on my blog is NOT for a guy. No it is not for a girl either... well at least not in a romantic way. I am taking out an ad for some single friends. I need other single girls to hang out when everyone else is with their boyfriends. It's pretty annoying when you're just looking for some company and everyone is occupied with boys. What ever happened to quality girl time? What ever happened to "F**k guys, I just wanna dance!" (That's a Dane Cook reference in case you didn't catch it!)

So, I'm seeking a college age, preferably straight just so there's no confusion, female, any size any color whatever. The only qualification is that you are completely single! And you want to hang out... I need some quality girl time. And no, listening to you talk about your boyfriend and how great he is or how great the sex is doesn't count! It would help if we could hang out IRL but, you know, blog friends/ twitter friends are welcome too!

So if you think you fit the description, let me know! You'd think that in a house full of 69 girls I could probably find some single friends, but all my good friends seem to have been taken by the relationship bug and suddenly don't have time for anything else anymore. Which is the reason for this ad! Do you need a personal ad for something, too?! Speak your peace and those of us in need can unite!!

Goodbyes: Not Easier the Second Time

If you would have asked me at the beginning of this summer if I would be sad to leave home and go back to school, I probably would have laughed at you. "Yeah, right," I would have said, "I can't wait to go back." But now that it's actually real... I'm an emotional wreck! Thursday was my last day of work, and I didn't get a chance to say goodbye because I had to rush off to get my hair cut & colored (more on that later, for now see pic here!). So yesterday I went back to see everyone before I left this morning. I've been lucky enough to work at my dad's office the past four summers answering phones & doing other odd jobs. My dad has worked for the company, which was started by his uncle so includes a lot of family members, since I was 1 year old. So a lot of these people I now work with are like my second family; they've watched me grow up. And the others, i've worked with them with several years now, so they've become really good friends! After I left from saying goodbye today, I started tearing up. "What is wrong with me?" I thought. This is not normal! Sure, last year the goodbyes were hard because I didn't know when I would be back, and there was so much unknown. But this year, I have more to look forward to. I'm going back to my sorority sisters & some of my best friends! I shouldn't be sad about that! But I can't seem to shake the feeling of being sad. And it is a familiar feeling; it's the same feeling I had when I was leaving school. So you would think I would be happy to get back there, and it's not that I'm not, but I'm sad, really sad to leave and to say goodbye. And those goodbyes today were only the first; today is another day of more goodbyes. Saying goodbye to my dad and to my sister, and a couple days after that my mom. The other night, in the middle of the night, I started thinking about these goodbyes that were so close & I cried! And those were just the first tears. There were many more to come and still will be I'm sure. It's a weird feeling, this whole leaving thing. As I was packing up my stuff this morning getting ready to go, I felt like I was just going on another trip. That I would be back in a week, or two weeks. But the truth is I don't know when I'll be back maybe in a month maybe in 3, maybe more. And when I think about that truth, the tears come again!

In the end, when I really think about it, I suppose that this is a good thing. Even though the sadness sucks, the fact that I am sad leaving both places means I'm happy both places, and for that I'm so lucky. I'm lucky that I have a great family I don't want to leave. And I'm lucky I have great friends at a great school I also don't want to leave. It's just the goodbyes that kill me... so from now I'll just go with "see you soon," because I know I will. It's not like it's goodbye forever! I just might shed a few tears in between those see you soon's...

"Are You Excited?"

I hear this almost everyday at least twice a day, probably more. It usually follows the question "When do you go back to school?" As soon as I answer, it always always follows "Are you excited?" This is where the dilemma is. I know the answer everyone is expecting. I know I'm supposed to say "yes! I can't wait! I'm so excited!" The truth? I don't know how I feel. Of course I want to see my friends, of course I'm looking forward to seeing them again, but excited? Not really. Not yet, anyway. When I think about this question, and how I'm supposed to react, it reminds me of an episode of Sex & the City (work with me, it's not what you think!) when Miranda finds out she is pregnant with a boy. She knows what the ultra sound tech is expecting; for her to get all excited! So, in her words, she fake orgasms. She acts all excited, saying "a boy! oh boy oh boy!" because that's what is expected of her even though she wasn't really feeling that way. This is how I feel when people ask me if I'm excited to go back to school. I feel like they expect me to shout for joy, maybe jump up & down with excitement. I mean, can you imagine if someone said "are you excited to go back to school?" and my response was "eh... not really."? I realize that most people that ask this are just being polite, and don't actually expect me to go into a long, deeply thought out answer. Which is exactly why I smile & "fake it" so to speak & say "Yes, I'm so excited!" Don't get me wrong. I love where I go to school. I love my friends. It's just hard for me to go back & forth, and it's hard for me to be excited. It takes me awhile to adjust to a new situation. It's the same coming home from school; when I first get home my parents are all giddy & excited I'm home & I'm thinking getmeoutofhereandbacktoschoolNOW! But pretty soon it starts to feel normal again, and I know that's how it will be once I get to school. It will take a little getting used to at first, but then it will be normal again, and I won't want to come home because I'm so happy there. Like I said here and here and probably 10 other times, I am lucky to be at a school where I'm happy. So, for now, when I get asked if I'm excited, I'll continue to fake it. I'll smile & nod my head & maybe even jump up and down like an idiot (ok, probably not), but inside hold tight to the knowledge that one day soon I will be excited, and won't be able to imagine a time when I wasn't. Or maybe I'll just answer "read my blog"!

PSF: Best Weekend of the Summer So Far!

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

This post is long overdue, but as soon as I got back from my trip I started summer school & ever since then have barely had time to breathe (well, ok I've been breathing, but not much else! ;) ). Anyway, I finally now present you with pictures from my fabulous trip to Kansas City to stay with my bff Lisa! The weekend was great from the time I got there until I left! I got in Thursday night, and we took a tour of the city & of her college she went to before we went to school together! It was a really cool city, and it was really fun to see where she went to school before! This is the downtown Kansas City skyline! We went downtown Friday night to something called First Friday's where they feature lots of art galleries and people come and sell their stuff or shop for art or homemade jewelry. It was pretty cool, and it was awesome to see downtown! This is the night time city skyline... pretty isn't it!? After First Friday's, we went to a party at one of her friends' house. This was the 1st time I had done any kind of partying since I left school, so I was excited to get out & party it up! haha It was great meeting all of Lisa's friends; everyone was so nice, and the party was a blast! Saturday, we went shopping! There were so many awesome places to shop, so we did a whole lot of that! Then Saturday night, we went out to dinner with a few of her friends at a place called Cheeseburger in Paradise! Yes, like the Jimmy Buffett song! The chain was actually started by Jimmy Buffett himself! It was a really cool place, and my cheeseburger was delicious!! The inside of the restaurant was decorated all cool, and there was a live band playing, so it was a great environment as well! This is the bar area inside the restaurant. I can't take credit for this picture, however, because I forgot my camera that night! I got this off google, but it is exactly what it looks like! Anyway, after dinner we went to see a comedy show! It was so much fun, the guys that performed were hysterical! You have to check out Dan Levy & Adam Ray! They were both hysterical! Seriously, click on that link to Dan Levy's site & watch the video on the front page! I can't even tell you how funny he is! Sunday we took it easy for awhile, then went swimming at the neighborhood pool with her adorable three year old niece, her sister, brother-in-law & a couple of her friends! It was really fun and a great way to spend the day! Then that night was the fun part! We decided to make it a pizza & margarita night! Seriously... is there anything better?! The funny thing is we decided to make it an adventure... we were about 10-15 minutes from the state line, where you cross from Kansas into Missouri, and because we thought that the liquor stores were closed on Sunday's in KS, we went into Missouri & went searching for a liquor store! Eventually we found one, and we got all the necessary ingredients to make the fantastic results! As it turns out, though, there was a liquor store in Kansas open... right next to where we got our pizza! But we had so much fun on our mini-road trip we didn't mind at all! Yummm!!! We made them with the best recipe ever & because I'm so nice (& most likely not the only one who knows this, but I can pretend!), I'll share! We used Frozen Limeade, Triple Sec, Tequila (obviously!) & beer! Seriously, it does not get any better than this!! This is me, obviously enthused with my delicious drink! The rest of the night, we just enjoyed our drinks and played some cards, like Uno! It was a great time! The trip was definitely the best weekend of the summer for me so far, and it couldn't have come at a better time since I started summer school, it was like my last hoorah for awhile! I really wouldn't have come back if it weren't for school & I would go back in a heart beat! I might take another trip there before the end of the summer or Lisa might come here, or both! We'll see what happens, but it was fantastic & I'm so thankful Lisa put up with me for a weekend! haha **Note- I am extremely tired. It's late & it's been a long week of non stop school stuff, so please forgive my poorly written post! Also, some people are weird about having their picture online (even though I argue if you put your pictures on facebook, why not a blog, but that is why I don't have pictures on here including Lisa because I did not receive permission & I didn't want to do it without asking... just in case you were wondering!**

Don't Mind Me...

Don't mind me if I'm gone for a few days... (I know, I know it's not that unsual for me to go several days without blogging but let's pretend it is!) I won't be around here much because I'm leaving, leaving on a Jet Plane!!! (yeah I know that reference is totally before my time, I don't know what's up with that)

Anyway.. I'm going to Kansas City for the weekend to see one of my sorority sisters, my BFF Lisa!
I'm so excited!!! :) I'll be for sure on Twitter, tweeting our every adventure, but I probably won't blog much (or at all, really)!
But, never fear, I'll be back Monday with a full report & maybe even some pictures! :)
So, have a great weekend friends!! See you on the other side.... wait what!?

School's Out (Almost)

It's that time of year... school's almost out. I heard someone use this phrase (School's out) the other day, and it got me thinking... it's funny how that term has changed meaning so much this past year. When I was younger hearing those words was cause for celebration, even a high school musical-esque celebration. School's out were the words we all waited to hear, counting down the days until there's only 100 days left of school, now only so many weeks, and then school's out! That meant freedom, it meant sleeping in late, pool parties, slumber parties, and so much more! No homework, no worries, no nothing! While all of the above benefits apply (and then some), I can't say that this year I am happy to hear the words "school's out." This means that I am leaving my comfort zone, and heading back home. I won't see my friends and my sorority sisters for 3 whole months. And worse than that, some of them are graduating or transferring next year! This year has been life changing for me. I've met amazing people who I hope will always be in my life. I'm gonna miss it here so much... even the little things. I'm gonna miss driving around town, making late night trips to McDonalds. I'm gonna miss my favorite frat house, where I've met some of my best friends. I'm gonna miss my room, laying in bed watching shows online. I'm gonna miss Saturday and Sunday mornings when I have 5 of my sisters in my room and we are all discussing the nights before. I'm gonna miss getting ready all together, and going out to party. I'm gonna miss it all. I don't like change. Even if it's just temporary. I know the summer will go by fast. I know when we get back it will be like we never left. But I don't want to leave. I want to just fast forward to the fall, when we are all reunited. And I can't stop thinking about those people who won't be here... some of my closest friends won't be here next year, and that really sucks. I'm trying to cherish these last few days, and enjoy the time I have with people, but I can't shake this feeling of sadness...

Am I Really That Bad?

So the end of the year is approaching quickly, and what would the end of the year be without preparing for next year? That's what's been going on here at the sorority house lately. We've been practicing for recruitment (when we try to get new members to come in the fall), we've been figuring out all the details for next year like whose coming back, whose not, etc, and my favorite (not!)... who is going to live with whom? This has been the main topic here for the last couple weeks, it's on everyone's mind. I try not to let little things like this stress me out, and I tend to have an attitude towards the future like it's just that; it's the future, so why deal with it now? However, it is kind of hard not to think about my future living arrangements when people are constantly discussing it. My roommate this year & I have gotten along great. Granted, we don't have a whole lot in common; she's a graphic design major, I'm a journalism major, she's really into art, I suck at art, I go out all the time on the weekends, she went out for the first time this weekend in probably over a month... & the big one... I'm a mess & she's really clean. This has been our only issue pretty much (except in the beginning of the year when I would keep turning down the air so the A/C would turn on & make the white noise noise I love, & I ended up making our room like 50 degrees)! Because I'm such a mess & my roommate is so clean... I just assumed that she wouldn't want to live with me anymore. I feel like I drive her crazy with my messiness, but she's so sweet & easy going that she just didn't want to say anything. I don't know that she actually feels this way, it could just be my insecurities talking, but it's how I feel regardless. Anyway, one of my good friends (we'll call her friend 1) decided we should room together. I thought about it, and I had my apprehensions, but I agreed. I talked to my roommate to make sure she wasn't going to be stuck without a roommate (or at least a roommate she actually wants to live with), and she had some people in mind as well, so I figured everything was good. Then, friend 1 decided that she didn't want to live together anymore because there is a theory going around the house that if you live with someone you are close friends with, it will ruin your friendship. Fine. Whatever. Was I dissapointed she changed her mind? Well, yeah. I was looking forward to rooming with her, but I understand that she was looking out for our friendship & I am glad that she values our friendship enough to not want to do anything to jeopardize it. So, I figured I had 2 options: my current roommate & one of my other good friends (we'll call her friend 2) who didn't have a roommate yet. I talked to friend 2, and she said she didn't see any problems living together. I agreed, and we said we would think about it before we set anything in stone. I told my roommate my other friend decided not to live together anymore, and told her I had discussed living with friend 2, and maybe she should live with friend 2's current roommate. Roomie agreed, or so I thought... Little did I know that right after friend 1 told me she didn't want to live together, she and several other people were planning who everyone was going to live with... and it turns out that my roomie & friend 1 have decided to live together, and no one told me! I found out from my best friend who is in charge of all this room picking crap. The thing that makes me upset is that I was with friend 1 all night tonight until I got home, at which point I discussed the fact that friend 1 no longer wanted to room together with my roomie. Neither one of them said anything to me... my feelings are kind of hurt. To top it off, with the exception of friend 2 (& my best friend who has decided to live with a new member next year), the only people left without roommates are people who 1.) I would never live with, and 2.)There's a reason why they don't have roommates yet. I don't mean to be rude because they are my sisters, so I love them. However, they are both really awkward, and don't really connect with anyone in the house... that's putting it nicely, honestly. I may be being dramatic, but I can't help feeling "Am I really that bad?!?" I know I'm a mess, but really? I'm one of the rejects! This just adds to my insecurities about not having friends even more. I don't even want to get into that because this post is already so long. Honestly, it's just hard to feel like no one wants me, even if it is because they don't want to effect our friendship.

Funny Comments #5!

Yay this is probably my favorite post all week! I am still in search of a button for this, if anyone feels like lending their creative talents, and also I feel this deserves a better name... something a little more creative than funny comments... something button-worthy! Just a couple thoughts I had were That's What They Said (like that's what she said, but what they said get it!? haha) or Say What!? But I am totally open to suggestions! Thanks for the help! Now, moving on to this weeks funny quotes: "We learned about anthrax in biology today, and let me just tell you, if you get anthrax and you open it, it can go in the ventilation systems of buildings and everything!" "What's your point..?" "Stay away from buildings!" "I made out with 3 guys in one night!" "Yeah, but that's not really slutty, making out is like a handshake these days!" (random siren goes off outside) "ahh we're gonna die!" "I love how you say that without even moving... we might die, but at least we'll die checking our facebooks!" "You know why I ask what year people are? It's so I know how much longer I have to deal with them..." "I got an event invitation... in loving memory of (name).... did she die!?" "These allergy shots are so much work than alcohol... I feel stoned!" "I think my mouth has brain freeze. I can't even talk!" "I'm losing my voice.. great! Maybe boys will find it sexy! (in a hoarse voice) hey! U wanna come home with me!?" "My dad told me 'if I wasn't your dad I would date you'... is that weird!?" "I feel like you should calm down... this is beer pong, not the Olympics!" "Yes it is... it's like the Olympics... it's the beerlympics!" As always feel free to add your own funny quotes from the week in the comments! Hope you enjoyed! :)

Funny Comments #4!

Alright so before I go on with this weeks installment of the funny quotes I collected over the past week, I have a couple requests! First of all, I've decided to make this a weekly thing because I really enjoy keeping track of these & sharing them with y'all! However, I want to make it the best it can possibly be and for that to happen a couple things need to be changed. First of all Cammie suggested getting a button for this! I love this idea, but don't know how to make one! If anyone knows how to do this, and wants to make one for me I would love you forever! I would totally give you a shout out every week when I do this! :) Second of all, I feel this deserves a better name... something a little more creative than funny comments... something button-worthy! Just a couple thoughts I had were That's What They Said (like that's what she said, but what they said get it!? haha) or Say What!? But I am totally open to suggestions! Thanks for the help! Sorry for the novel! moving on to this weeks funny quotes: "I just bought my 1st Bible... I thought about going to the Church and telling them I don't have enough money for one, but I didn't want to get shocked by lightning or something" "I'm so drunk right now I just hit my head on the bathroom stall" "He called me a drunken whore! I am not a drunken whore! I may be drunk a lot, but I am not a whore!" "Why me? Why do I have to be sick!? I want to go out tonight! Why can't someone who doesn't go out get sick!?" "What do you call a fly without wings?" "I don't know what?" "It's not a joke! I'm asking! They call it a fly, but if it has no wings, it can't fly, so what do you call it!?" "I wish I had a figure like Boyance" "Who?" "You know, Boyance! She has the perfect body she's like skinny but with curves, I wanna look like that!" "Who are you talking about!?" "Boyance you know the chick that sings 'Put a Ring on it' or whatever..." "...um Beyonce?" "Yeah her!" Girl 1: "You look so hot! F**k me!" Girl 2: "What!!?" Girl 1: "OMG not like that... I meant f**k me like f**k my life!"

Fake Conversation with ANOTHER Real Person!

I'm not making this stuff up, I swear! I don't know how these people find me, but I'm so glad they do! So tonight I was minding my own business when I got a text from a number I didn't recognize. I thought about telling them it was the wrong number, but then I remembered last time I was in this situation, and how awesome it turned out! So I texted back, of course! It went like this! Random #: Hey fool it's Whitney* this is Dana's* number (Insert another random # here.. should I text them 2!?) Me: Thanks! What u doin? ( I was trying to talk ghetto since she called me fool!) W: Not much just chillin how bout ya? (Yes! They texted back... success!) Me: Same. What u doin 2nite? (Trying to make conversation... I forgot it was Wednesday & no one is really partying woops!) W: Nothin tonight ha but this weekend should be fun lol (woah... scandalous!) Me: Lol what's going down this weekend? (Give me some dirt!) W: hangin with the girls and valentines stuff ha you? (I still can't figure out if I'm supposed to be a guy or a girl...) Me: Nice! I don't know yet, I'm still figuring that out but definitely getting crunk! (party all the time! lol jk) W: haha awesome! (Lame answer!) Me: Lol u know it! Do you have a hot date for Valentines!? (trying to get some dirt!) W: Lol yeah my boyfriend ha what about you? (This is starting to sound like my last conversation with a random person) Me: Oh I didn't know you had a boyfriend! (Probably because I don't know you...) No just hangin with the girls probably (thanks for reminding me I have no freakin Valentine's day plans!) W: Lol yeah we just got back together and that's cool ha (ok quit laughing I know I'm pathetic & dateless it's not funny!) Me: Nice! What's his name? Yeah it should be fun (it will be, who needs dates!?) W: Willy* lol (lol Whitney & Willy... funny! too bad those aren't there real names) Me: Nice how did y'all meet!? W: In school like my sophomore year (boring! I've got to make this more interesting) Me: Wow that's awesome that's such a long time (I like how i'm just assuming that, she could be a junior I don't know if she's my age or not) W: I know right we actually didn't start going out til my junior year but that's still like two wholeee years lol (what's with all the e's? I get that its a long time...) Me: Wow that's a long time (I just said that, wtf?) Do y'all go 2 school 2gether? (trying to carry on the conversation) W: No he goes to Stonehaven* cuz his work is near there Me: Aw thats cool where r u going this year? (Stupid question!) W: Quad C.? (oh no she put a question mark! I should've know this... quick back track!) Me: oh lol I knew that my b! (play it cool...) Me: (she's not saying anything! I have to sabotage the relationship!) Sorry about that my friend took my phone (easy excuse right?) W: Sorry bout what (I didn't do anything wrong? what?) Me: lol not knowing where u went 2 school that was a stupid question (don't figure me out, don't do it!) W: oh lol i was did he really forget ha but its all good (I didn't quite follow but its all good, so thats good!) Me: lol yeah he's crazy but we should hang out sometime! (trying to change the subject from my epic screw up) W: lol fo sho ha (lol gangster talk again) Me: lol sweet! What r up 2!? I'm so bored! (im trying to make excuses for texting her constantly...) W: lol I'm actually about to hop in the shower ha so i have to go let ya go (bummer!) me: okay, talk to you later! :) I can't believe another random number texted me! I must have a really popular number or something! The funny thing is I think I was supposed to be a guy, but I had no idea until the end, I can't believe she didn't figure it out when I said I was hanging out with the girls! Maybe she thinks I'm a gay guy... who knows. But I'll definitely have to text them again, and maybe that other number....! Oh, the possibilities! *evil laugh*

Funny Comments #3!

This seems to be a hit, and I have a lot of fun keeping track of these and sharing these with y'all! Cammie even suggested I get a button for it, so if anyone is skilled & wants to do that, I would love you forever :) Anyway, without further ado, here are the funny quotes I acquired for the week: "I'm going to the formal with him but he's telling everyone that I asked him but I'm pretty sure that's not how it happened" "So what!? It's 2009, girls should be able to ask guys out!" "yeah but I'm a hopeless romantic: guys need to step it up and grow some balls!" "So this guy told me I looked beautiful last night..." "What!? Is he cute!?" "I don't know he's got that apple thing with the 2 faces..." "What!!!?? OMG! He has 2 faces!?" "No... his picture on facebook is the computer thing where you take pictures and it gives you two faces" "Oh.. thank god!" "He looked really pissed or annoyed last night..." "He did!? I think he just didn't feel well from the night before when he got really drunk" "Wasn't he drinking last night!?" "I don't think so... I saw him with water" "Oh, I guess I just assumed it was vodka..." "I was expecting one casual whiskey drink then all of the sudden I was passed out on the floor!" "He looks really hot tonight... and he's wearing pin stripe pants! I just want to rip them off of him!" "We were just sitting there and then someone yelled incoming and then we got hit in the face with some white substance" "that's what she said..." "Look he has eggs now!" "What!? He has AIDS!?" "I don't know which is faster... the way you take shots or the way you type!" As always, please feel free to leave your own funny quotes from this week in the comments, or write a post of your own if you feel like it!

Funny Comments, 2nd Edition

I got a pretty good response from this last week, so I'm gonna try and it make it a weekly thing, and post them either Sunday or Monday! So here are this weeks funny, random quotes from conversations that were either overheard or I was involved in: "I got kicked out of girl scouts. I was a Daisy & they let me graduate to Brownies, but then they asked my mom not to let me come back." "Why!!?" "I don't know... some sort of duck duck goose incident" "No junk food, we need beach bodies for Spring Break!" "Um you have a beach body you're a stick" "No... not really" "What's a beach body? Big boobs & a big butt?" "No because I can't afford big boobs!" "Does anyone have (name of professor)?" "Yeah, I've had him..." "Well today I found myself real attracted to him!" "What!? He's like 65!" "I know, but I was attracted to him..." "EW... why!?" "I don't know, maybe I was just feeling extra full of desire today..." "What kind of drink did you get?" "I'm trying something new I got a sex on the beach!" "Oh I've heard from a lot of people that's really good..." "yeah, plus it's so much fun to say!" "I'm not an alcoholic, alcoholics go to meetings!" "You can't judge, you're a stoner" "Yeah, they don't have meetings for that..."

Funny Comments

So one of my favorite blogs, college candy, does a post at the end of every week about the funniest things they have overheard people say, and it never fails to make me laugh! So, I started thinking about all the funny things that get said around here, conversations I may or may not have been a part of. I decided to keep track of them on my phone, and post them at the end of the week. If you guys like it, I'll do it every week! So here goes... (While playing the game Never Have I Ever) "Never have I ever had sex with more than 2 people..." "like at once!?" "Um no like at all..." "Seriously? Who hasn't done that!?" "Do you wanna go work out with me!?" "ok just let me eat my cookies!" "Can we get out of class early? I want to watch the inauguration!" "Um we'll see..." "omg what if Obama gets assassinated!? We would miss it!" "Well hopefully Obama can dodge bullets like Bush can dodge shoes" "We saw the movie The Women... it wasn't very good!" "Why not?" "There were no men in it!" "Well duh it's called The Fu**ing women!" "I actually said y'all last night..." "You did!? Yay! We're rubbing off on you!" "Yeah and after I said it I wanted to throw myself down the stairs!" "I didn't wear a coat outside." "Um you're gonna die just to let you know P.S.!" "So we were kissing in the room, and then he told me to meet him in the laundry room so he could turn on the dryer and f**k the s**t out of me... so I ran away!" Feel free to leave your own in the comments, or put them on your blog and let me know so I can link to you!

Not Me Monday #4

Not me Monday is back in action, and this week was full of fun times & crazy things I did not do as always! I did not stay in a $36 motel for NYE... I also did not end up not spending the night because I did not feel safe!(ok this wasn't from the past week but so what!?) I did not miss my curfew several times in a row... And it did not make my mom mad! Nope. I did not fly in my best friend from school to come stay with me for a week & we did not have a blast! Our electricity did not go out due to ice storms and we did not have to stay the night at my aunt & uncles mansion and my bff & I did not have a blast playing with all the little kid toys that are for their grandchildren. We also did not decide to make music videos with the karaoke machine on the stage in the media room. (yes, there is a stage). We did not rent movies & never even look twice at them because we were too busy playing with the toys! We did not hit every major mall in the area while she was here & we did not go to the same mall twice. I did not somehow manage to rip my pajamas right in the front where the crotch is. I did not decide to ride back to school with 1 of my friends... It is not a 10 hr drive! That would be crazy! I did not decide at the last minute to post & write this from my iPhone while on the road... I am more prepared than that! I did not accidentally drop my iPhone on the driveway & it did not crack at the top. (But if this did happen I would be grateful it still works!) Wanna see what everyone else did not do this week? Head to MckMamas place at mycharmingkids.net (sorry I'm not good with HTML so I can't link directly) **I also have a small request could someone fill out the mr. Linky for me!? I would greatly appreciate it :) ** update: Thanks Tenakim, for answering my twitter request :)

Fake Conversation pt 2!

If you don't know the story behind this... go here! There's nothing like the holiday's to bring back old friends... or fake friends! Christmas day I got a text from a number I didn't recognize... then I remembered! It was Britney... she was back! So of course I texted back... all in the name of blogging obviously, not for my own amusement or because I am that lame that I actually enjoy having conversations with complete strangers who think I'm someone else. Anyway, here's how it went: *Note: I translated some of the text speak, but occasionally it will still b n slang like dis... so bear with me! Britney: Merry Christmas Me: (thinking) hmm... who is this number?!? I checked the list of numbers for my sorority sisters, but it wasn't one of them. I had 1 of my friends call the number to see who it was, no answer, and the voice mail didn't have a name! WtF!? So finally curiosity got the best of me, and I just had to know who this was! Me: Who is this!? Britney: It's Britney! (oh yeah... Britney! ok well I guess I'll text back..) Me: Oh hey! (of course I know you are, silly me!) Merry Christmas :) (I think the smiley face adds a little extra friendliness!) Well, apparently Britney didn't feel the need to respond, but I couldn't let her go that easy! She was finally texting me back! I had to get her to talk somehow... so I texted her again! (I did this for the blog of course!) Me: How was your Christmas!? (See you have to ask a question! That requires a response, so she has to text back, right!?) Britney: My xmas was good :) (see, she does the smiley thing, too!) how was yours!? Me: That's good! (I'm trying to be supportive!) Mine was good 2! I haven't talked 2 u n 4ever! What have u been up 2!? (Translation: Give me some dirt... come on!) Britney: Nothing really just getting my back into school and workin my butt off... u!? (Boring! This is not dirt!) Me: That's no fun :( (I'm telling you the smiley faces really add something!) How's that going!? I'm just living the life u know crazy parties wild adventures lol (I'm kidding... kind of ;-) haha) Britney: hahaha gotta love it! (umm yeah!) I miss that part of life :) haha (I get that a lot...) Me: Lol I know right!!? (My life is really something to be jealous of ha not!) U still working @ Chili's? How's the school thing goin!? (translation: please... tell me something juicy!) Britney: Unfortunately yes :( (Another smiley, geez!) school is coming along. I won't graduate from dental hygiene school for another 3 years though. Whats new you w/ you!? (Now I have to spill...?? That's not how this is supposed to go!) Me: Yeah well at least ur getting it over with! (I am so supportive of my fake friend!) Not much.. my bf and I broke up :( (Why I'm telling her my real life... I don't know, but I don't know what Kathy* has been up to, so either I make something up or just tell her my life story, so might as well go with my life story!) Britney: Oh no! Why!? You seemed so happy! (How depressing is it that even a complete stranger could tell how completely happy I was with him...!?) Me: I know :( I was! (true) But he has a lot going on in his life so he didn't feel like he could be 100% n a relationship so we r trying 2 b friends but its hard. Whats new with u!? (Enough depressing stuff about me!) Britney: Aww I'm sorry sweetheart (woah sweetheart, what!?) Nothing really me and Cody* broke up awhile ago and I moved out with my new bf, best friend, and his best friend (woah new bf already, what!? She moves on fast...) Me: Wow u already have a new bf!? Way 2 go! (I fully support moving on quickly!) What's his name!? What's he like?! (I want juicy details!) Britney: It was a mess to say the least (yes! drama!) Cody* had bought me an engagement ring and I didn't even know about it. (She gave me more details about this last time) Me: Yeah u told me about that (tell me something I don't know!) Wow do you think yaall will ever get back 2gether!? (The age old question of course!) Britney: haha I'm classy :) haha. (ok it's not that funny! enough haha's!) his name is bryan*... he's a total goofball just like me & he treats me like a million dollars (how exactly do you treat someone like a million dollars!?) Britney: I don't think so... he was gone so much I fell out of love with him and I kind of resented him cause he was never around... not that it was his fault (hmm... sounds like a Lifetime movie!) Me: Aww! I'm jealous!! He sounds like a great guy! (The new guy not the old one!) I'm happy 4 u :) (As happy as I can be for someone I've never met...) I hope 1 day I will find some1! I totally understand about you & Cody that happens! (That's supportive, right!? What would Kathy say? I don't know!) Do y'all ever talk!? (More drama, come on!) Britney: yeah, we just started talking like a week ago (there's gotta be more to the story... come on!) You'll find someone you're a great girl (I'm sure Kathy is a great girl... wouldn't know!) But I have to go back to work :( Call me sometime! I miss you! Me: (secretly bummed this conversation is ending) Ok good luck with everything! It was good catching up with u! (a.k.a thanks for finally texting me back so I have something to blog about!) Text me soon :) (As opposed to calling... I don't want you to know I'm not the real Kathy!) I miss u 2! (I'm sure Kathy does miss you... me? Not so much!) So that was how part 2 of "Kathy" and Britney went! What will be next!? Will Britney call? I don't know if I could pull that off... but then again it doesn't seem like they talk too much, so maybe she won't know!? I think it's safe to say for now that the secret is safe...

Can't Believe I Didn't Blog About This Sooner!

A non-break up related post!! Woo for me trying to move on! I was over at Mrs. Newlywed's site today, and was reminded of her awesome contest about your biggest misadventure of 2008! At first, I didn't enter because I didn't think I had any misadventures, at least not funny or interesting one's. Then, today, a light bulb came on and I couldn't believe I hadn't told this story yet! So one night, a couple weeks ago, my best friend in my sorority house and I decided we should take an adventure. It was like midnight or somewhere around there, but we are young & in college & we didn't care! So my friend decides we should smoke flavored cigars, and I agreed... so we go to the gas station to buy cigars & decide we should drive around town smoking. Well, I don't know if you've ever smoked cigars and accidentally inhaled, but it can give you quite a buzz! We were having a great time... we couldn't stop laughing, and at one point my friend had to pull over because she felt like she was driving under the influence! Anyway, we called one of our guy friends who heard about our adventure, so we decided to invite him. So we go over to his fraternity house at the other college in town and pick up him and his roommate. They decide we should go to Taco Bell, so we do, and then we decide we'll just drive around town some more and smoke, and they can eat their taco bell. So it's a small town... there's not far to drive, so we go down this one road that pretty much has nothing on it, so my friend turns on her brights because it was a long road & it was hard to see. Well, we were lead to the highway going to Jeff City, a major city outside of town and we didn't want to go on a road trip like that, so we turn around. Well, after a few minutes when we turn around, my friend gets pulled over. Turns out she forgot to turn off her brights, and its illegal when you're approaching a car to have your brights on. Let me just say the cops here in town have a reputation for not being so nice. This was my 1st experience with them, and I would say that statement is pretty true. The cop stops us, and tells her why she was pulled over, asks for not only her ID, but all of our ID's. So we give it to him. Of course, my friend can't find her insurance so we spend 10 minutes looking for the insurance, and then finally we find it and give it to the officer. After stalling for what seems like forever, the cop comes over and asks my friend who was driving to get out of the car. By this time, two more police cars and officers have showed up. So the cop talks to my friend and asks her if any of us have been drinking tonight (we hadn't), and she answers honestly that she and I haven't but she doesn't know if the guys have because we just picked them up. He goes on to tell her that he smelled beer in her car, and has she had beer in the car recently? She tells him she has never had beer in the car. She points out that one of the cigars we were smoking was wine flavored, maybe that's why it smells like alcohol? So, one of the other officers that showed up proceeded to go over and pick up one of the cigars we had thrown on the ground (more on that later), broke it in half, sniffed it & claimed they didn't smell anything fruity in it... Then the officer comes over and asks me to step out of the car, and go stand by my friend. He asks me if I've been drinking tonight. I say no. He asks me if my friends have been drinking and I can honestly answer no since we discussed it once our friend got asked to get out of the car, and say no. So he asks me if he gets them out of the car, and find out that they have been drinking, if he can arrest me too. I say yes, because I was 100% sure they hadn't been drinking unless they were lying to me. AT this point, I'm freaking out a little... I just told an officer he could arrest me! I think about who I would call if I were in jail- my (now ex) boyfriend? Well I don't know if I want him to think of me as the kind of girl who gets arrested... my parents? Well, what are they going to do all the way from TX? Someone in our sorority house... who? Then the officer asks me more questions... about the cigars we were smoking. He asks me if I was smoking, I say yes. Then he asks me if I threw it out the window. I say yes, because I got nervous when they pulled us over & so I threw mine out the window! Not smart. He then asks me if I was aware that its a $500 fine for littering... and my response?? Are you serious?!?! (I don't do well under pressure... I was nervous!) He then says "Why would I joke about that?" Me: "Umm... well I didn't know that, sorry." Officer: You didn't know that throwing something out the window was littering..?" me: "Well... I didn't know cigars counted!" Yeah, I can sound real dumb when I'm nervous!! Then the officers asked the guys to get out of the car, so they did, and a different officer talked to each of them. It went something like this: Officer: Have you been drinking tonight? Boy 1: No sir... Officer: When was the last time you slept? Boy 1: Um... Last night. Officer: How much did you sleep? Boy 1: I don't know... 8 hours? Then the officer asked him at least twice where he was coming from, and what he was doing out, and several times if he had been drinking. The conversation with boy 2 was even more bizarre... Officer: Where are you coming from? Boy 2: Westminster College... Officer: When was the last time you got high? Boy 2: Um... never. Officer: Are you always this nervous? Boy 2: I'm not nervous. Officer: Well you're shaking, why are you nervous? Boy 2: Its 30 degrees outside, and I'm wearing shorts. I'm shaking because I'm really cold! Officer: Why would you do that? Boy 2: Um I don't know it was warm earlier today. Finally, after at least 20 minutes of interrogating us, and making us stand outside in the cold and think that we could be getting arrested... they finally let us go without a ticket or anything. I think it's pretty safe to say this was definitely a misadventure!

Things that don't help when going through a break up

I promise my blog is not being taken over by me feeling sorry for myself over the whole break up thing... however in my defense it has only been a week, and it's my blog I should be able to write whats on my mind, and whether I like it or not, this is on my mind. Anyway, lately I've been getting a lot of advice and sympathy going through this whole thing. Some people are really helpful, and my friends are an amazing support system. I'm lucky to be in a house full of people who really care. However, sometimes when people think they are helping they just aren't. Here's some of the not-so-helpful-but-trying-to-be comments that I've gotten lately:

  • There are plenty of fish in the sea- While this may be true, yes. 1. It's a small school & a small town, so I kind of feel like my options are limited, and 2. That's not really what I want to here right now.
  • You can do so much better- again, this may be true, but again, not what I want to hear right now. It honestly just pisses me off coming from friends because when we were together, we were "so cute" and he's "such a good guy" and now all the sudden he's not good enough? I can understand if he was a jerk about the break up, but as I said, he wasn't.
  • You can't keep doing this to yourself, stop thinking about it all- I got this as I was crying... like it was my fault I was upset, like I want to feel like total crap! Like I want to obsessively think about everything, to the point where it does make me want to cry? No, but I really can't help it. Like I said it's still so new, and it still hurts, so sometimes I cry... it's all part of the process.
  • Just give it time, time heals everything- I know this can actually be really good advice, but again, not so much what I want to hear. I don't want to give it time! I just want to fast forward through the "time" and get to a point where its not awkward for us to be friends.
  • Do you really think you can be friends, that never works- um yes. I do. and thanks for the voted confidence... real nice!
  • He's a jerk- this kind of goes a long with the whole you can do better thing... 1st of all he had the opportunity to be a jerk about it and he wasn't, and 2nd he really isn't a jerk, and he definitely wasn't a jerk when we were together, so the fact that we broke up doesn't make him a jerk because he broke up because he cares.
I know people mean well, and I know from experience its hard to know what to say to someone going through a break up. I just had to vent a little. Also, on the subject of advice... one of my guy friends just started a blog!!! I'm so excited, it's going to be like an advice blog, so if you want to ask him any questions, e-mail him at bryansadvice at gmail dot com, and check it out his blog (maybe give it a little while so he can get a post up!)

Fake conversation with a Real Person

So occasionally I stay up kinda late, you know, just hanging out, dying each other's hair, talking about sex boys. Well, the other day I was doing all that when I happened to get a text message. I thought this was really weird since 1. It was 1 AM and 2. I was already with most of my friends, and my boyfriend had already said goodnight. Anyway.. I didn't recognize the number, but I was curious so I read the text message, and this is what it said: "Hey Kathy* it's me Britney*! I miss you! Hope your doing good! Give a call sometime so we can catch up!" So at 1st I was all like "ugh who is this Britney and why does she think I'm Kathy? WTF? I am so not texting her back" Then I was like *light bulb* Wait... This could be bloggy gold!! After all, McMommy pulled off the whole e-mail that wasn't for her thing... So what did I do? I texted her back, of course! All in the name of blogging of course! Me: "HEY!!! What's up?!?" (I am super enthusiastic when it comes to creepy 1 AM strangers!) Britney: "Notta lot love (wait, I'm confused we're supposed to be lovers now? hmm..) How are you? I miss you! Me: I miss you too (as much as you can miss someone you don't know)!! I'm really good. How have you been? What have u been up 2 lately?? Britney: I've been good... things are kinda crazy (yes! Now we're getting to the good stuff...) I broke up with Cody* like a month ago. Now I'm trying to go back to school and stuff (yes! the dirt!) What's going on in your life?! (good question, I don't know what's going on in Kathy's life... hmm) Me: Aww! Why did you guys break up!? (This better be juicy!) I'm sorry! Where are you trying to go to school (read: how old are you are you looking at high schools or colleges?) I've just been partying (true) and I have a new boyfriend (true!!!) He's amazing (definitely true!) Britney: I broke up with him cause I wasn't in love anymore (What?! Who breaks up for that!!) ... He was about to propose I found out soon after (you should've waited for the ring!) I'm trying to get into USC or OSU (ok, so this chick is like smart? didn't see that coming!) New boyfriend!? No way! (yes, I know I'm shocked too!) How long have you been dating him?! Me: Wow! Those are really good schools! (true) Good Luck! (That sounds like something a friend would say, right?!) What are you trying to study? We've been together a few months (ok well a week sounds lame, so I had to fudge just a little!) Britney: I'm studying to be a dental hygienist (so she really is smart! Wow.).. I went for dental assisting already :) (ok what's with the random creepy smiley face? And was I supposed to know that I assumed it's been awhile since "we" talked...) aww what's his name? (why? Why you wanna know, huh? So you can look him up on facebook, no thanks b!%^$) Me: Wow! That's awesome..! Good luck with everything :) ( I felt the need to reciprocate the creepy smiley face even though I still think it's creepy.) His name is Ethan* he's super sweet (true!) Hopefully you will find some men at your new school ;) (ok, what's my problem with the smiley faces!?) And that's where the conversation ended. Britney never texted me back after that. Maybe she figured out I wasn't the real Karen? Maybe it was the creepy smiley faces.. did I go overboard with the winky face? Hopefully I didn't sabotage Britney and Karen's relationship forever! Maybe one day I'll text her again... for the blog of course not for my own personal amusement or anything. Oh, and get this... as I was explaining the situation to my friends I was with and how I was only texting her back so I could blog about this, one of my friends goes "What if it's one of your blog friends trying to contact you and you don't know it?"
