Welcome to Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman! I'm Patrice, the author of this blog! That's me over there in the corner.
I'm 21 years old, a college student and sorority girl (Alpha Chi Omega!). I'm studying Communications in school and hoping to turn my passion for social media marketing into a job someday.
Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman was born in 2008, shortly after my high school graduation. I wanted to chronicle the transition from high school to college, and all the changes that come in that stage of life.
Three years later, this blog is still very much about my college and sorority life. However, when my sister Anna was diagnosed with cancer (Stage IV Ewings Sarcoma) in the fall of 2009, it became more of a therapeutic outlet to deal with that major change in my life. She completed 14 rounds of chemotherapy and 31 days of radiation, and her scans after treatment showed no remaining signs of the disease. However, in November of 2010, almost a year after the initial diagnosis, it was discovered that she had remaining cancer cells in her bone marrow, so more treatment would be necessary.
Unfortunately, no further treatments proved to be successful and her cancer spread rapidly. On June 8, 2011 she gained her angel wings and was welcomed into heaven. Since her passing away, I have used this blog to process this unimaginable pain, mostly through my letters to her.
Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman is the chronicle of a college girl wandering her way through her 20's, and blogging all the moments of life including sorority life, a sister with cancer and everything else that comes along. It will make you laugh and it will make you cry, but come along for the ride as this girl looks to find the woman in her and leave behind the girl.
