Bin Laden is Dead... and Facebook reacts.

I'll be honest... I found out that Osama Bin Laden was dead on Facebook. It seems as though the first thing everyone did upon the news breaking was rush to their computers and update their Facebook Status. Facebook was literally overflowing with status updates about the news.

Back in the day when Obama was elected, I compiled the different reactions on facebook into a blog post. When I saw all the statues about Bin Laden's death, I knew I had to do the same. Most were celebrating, some were scary and some were hilarious! Check it out...

The Celebrations:

  •  America!! F Yea!!
  • Godbless America and the men and women that caught Osama. 'Merica
  • Special thanks to all our soldiers for their courage and bravery. God bless America! :)
  •  ...good to see bad things happen to bad people.
  • Well Done Presidents Bush and Obama, The CIA, US special forces, The Navy seals that killed Osama (I would like to shake your hands), and all our soldiers making us proud over seas. Burn in hell a$$ hole. USA!!!!!
  • Would love to been that small group of americans that took that bitch out!
  •  WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS...at least for now...USA!! USA!! USA!!
A lot of them were thought provoking and/or quotes:
  •  It's a little disturbing how many people are celebrating a death with such hateful joy. I'm all for justice, but I'd like to think we're...you know...actually better than/different than the terrorists. That being said: adios, sucka
  • Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live? - Ezekiel 18:23
  • "We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail."- George W. Bush, Speech after 9/11 attacks
  •  "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty." President John F. Kennedy
  • "Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve." -George W. Bush
The Scary:
  • evil never dies one leader falls another rises...think about that.
  • While OBL might very well be dead, think of what this might mean for our men and women in uniform and for ourselves, when the inevitable backlash occurs. Please keep this in mind while you're popping champagne corks and toasting one another.
  • hey people, just cause he is dead doesnt mean the war is over..... he was ONE person... there are thousands more just like him.
The Funny:
  • Autopsy results show Toby Keith's boot inserted into bin laden's rectum
  • Osama Ghost: Well this sucks...I accidentally enabled location on my tweets.
  • I hope Zuck made Facebook strong enough to withstand the day our United States military heroes took out that jack wagon Osama!
  • "I have never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure." (Mark Twain)
  • We should bury Obama and Osama next to each other
  • BREAKING NEWS: Chuck Norris returns from trip to Afghanistan.
  • wrap that in your turban and wear it
  • "We'll put a boot in your ass, it's the American way."
  • FOX NEWS EMERGENCY UPDATE: New information suggesting that Osama Bin Laden was actually killed 49 years ago and has now been reincarnated into a multi-racial top political official is beginning to surface.
  • I was going to write a status about Bin Laden being dead...but I think Facebook got the message
  • Well, looks like Obama just got himself another 4 years.
  • Bin laden... best player ever in hide and seek... dead.
There was even a group some of my friends were joining called "cancel finals in celebration of Bin Laden's death"! As college student I have to appreciate that!

I always say when something big like this happens, if you want to know how people really feel log on to facebook and read their statuses! People don't hold back on Facebook, that's for sure! I was one of the few who didn't update my status tonight, but if I did I would go with the simple and generic "God Bless America." Today, I am proud to be an American!

Identity Crisis

I am having a bit of an identity crisis lately, and I need help! No, no one stole my identity (as far as I know), and yes, I still know my name, etc (Patrice, age 20, etc.). No, this identity crisis involves Facebook.
This morning when I got to work, I had this posting on my Facebook Wall: "Facebook just told me I should be friends with you because you were a mutual friend of yourself. Confused yet? Hahaha." Ugh. Now normally most people would be like WTF. Except, in this case, it's true. Yes, I am friends with myself on Facebook. How is this possible? Let me explain.

A few weeks ago, I decided to start a fan page for my blog. (Check out the top left corner and you can "like" it!) I had seen a lot of other bloggers do it and had read that is a great way to get more people to come to your blog and connect with other bloggers. So I did not take this lightly. I did my research. I posted questions on Blog Frog Forums, I tweeted, I even read Scary Mommy's tips for starting your own fan page. If I was going to do this, I was going to do it right and it would be awesome.
So, while doing my research I learned that most people create a separate Facebook account to link their blog fan page to. I guess that way the people who are connected to your personal page don't have to see the posts from the fan page. I'm not sure, but whatever I read convinced me that this was the way to do it. So I set up a new e-mail address, and a new Facebook account. Except, Facebook has all these lame rules about not putting nick names as your name and you can only put your real name. So I couldn't title my new Facebook account "Patrice's blog" or "Not A Girl..." or something. So now there are two Patrice Basso's on Facebook and yes, they are both me. In order to set up Networked Blogs to post to my fan page, I had to friend myself and list myself as an author of my blog. (Confused yet?)

So after I get this wall posting and find out that I have friend requests on my blog "Patrice Basso" account, I go to Facebook's privacy settings. There are 3 million different ways to customize your privacy on Facebook, but there are no settings (at least that I could find) that won't allow friend requests, or "suggesting" people be friends with you. Awesome. Of course not. And, the more I use my fan page, the more I decide that it is useless to be linked up to this other account because I don't use that Facebook account for anything except to go to my fan page. Why can't I do that from my regular account? All my friends know I blog. My Networked Blogs is linked to my personal facebook account, so I have no concerns about anyone "finding out" I blog. It's not a secret Most of my fans are IRL people anyway, and not blog people.

So, how do I solve this identity crisis?! Do I delete the account and start all over on my fan page? Do I ask all 69 of my fans to re-like me once I launch the new page? Or, do I just leave it and post some kind of PSA on one of my "Patrice Basso" accounts that one account is strictly for my blog fan page, and I never post anything on that account anyway, so you wouldn't really want to be friends with "me" on that account?

This is one heck of an identity crisis, and one I need to solve quick before everyone wants to be friends with the "other" me! Help!

My Newfound Career Plan!

Who needs college anyway!? I have my found my new career, starting... immediately! So, sign up now while you can before I get booked! What? You want to know what it is?! Fine I'll tell you! I have decided my new career will be a facebook teacher! You don't know what that is?! Well, it's simple really (well not simple, I mean it's not like anyone could do it. It takes a special kind of person like me!). This summer I have been helping my parents become active facebook users! I know what you're thinking, why would I help my parents get a facebook? Most people don't want their parents on facebook, but luckily I have pretty cool parents & nothing to hide! Plus when I'm at school I want them to stay updated on my life! Anyway, back to the point. Since I have been helping them learn how to use facebook, I have become pretty good at explaining how to do stuff, what everything means, etc. Anyway, yesterday at work my 30-something year old cousin asked me to explain facebook to him, teach him how to use it, that kind of thing... and *bam* my career was born! You see, there's a pretty good market for this kind of thing. Facebook is no longer just for your average college student like myself, it is now for teens, pre-teens & even *gasp* grown ups like my parents! And a lot of these new users need a few little "how-to lessons?," and that's where I come in! I set up a few classes, with step by step how-to's on facebook, with a small charge for each session (my mom has volunteered to manage the financial side of things for my booming business!). And this is just the first step! I can teach you how to blog, how to tweet, whatever you need to know, I'm your girl (for a small fee of course). It's brilliant, right?! And I'll even give you a discount for being my special bloggy friends! :) So, what do you think!? Brilliant, right? I know, I know. You can think me later!

We Now Return to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming...

It's been a really long commercial break around here for, oh, only the last week and a half or something like that! Did you miss me?! Did you know I was gone?! lol I'm sure you totally knew & you totally missed me, don't lie! Anyway, I have a totally legit excuse for not being here, don't worry, I wouldn't just leave you for no reason! I was on vacation for a family reunion with my mom's side in Sun River, OR. It was beautiful! And even though I had internet access and everything, I just didn't have the time to sit down & like, write a whole post! Well maybe that's not true either, but whatever, the point is I'm back now & that's all that matters! So my vacation was pretty fantastic. It was really great to see my family; we only get together every 3 years or so, so it's really great to see everyone when we get together! I have a cousin my same age (only like 3 months apart) so that makes it even more fun since I get to hang out with her! So anyway, we did a lot of fun things! We took a trip up to Crater Lake, it was pretty fantastic. You can read all about that here at my post for College Lifestyles! We went White Water Rafting... that was a blast! Probably my favorite part! We also did some black light mini-golfing, that was pretty cool! All in all, it was a great trip, but I'm glad to be back home and of course, happy to be back with you all, my bloggy friends! I know you were just missing me so much! For pictures of my fabulous trip, check out my facebook! Are we friends? We should be! So, yeah, this post is kind of lame. But I just wanted you to know I'm back in action! More to come soon, don't worry!

How do you really feel?

So I love facebook for many reasons, but tonight, after the results of the election were announced, I came to love facebook even more. Why, you ask? Let me tell you, friends... if you wanna know what people are really thinking, just log on to facebook, and read some of your friends status's. Or, better read some of mine. Some are happy, some are claiming they are leaving the country, and some are just freaking hilarious! Allow me to demonstrate: Here are some of my favorite negative one's:

  • Stocking up because we're screwed
  • scared for everyone's future...
  • Bye, Bye America
  • Way to go America for electing a damn terrorist
  • Congrats America.. you've elected a damn idiot for president!
  • can only sit aside and sob as I watch the country fall apart and see people celebrating...
  • omg what has America done? the next 4 years we are f***ed.
  • well yall wanted change and yall are about to see it, and it wont be good. F*** Obama.
  • excited to quit her job and go on welfare. Yay president hussein!! Oops. I meant Obama. My bad.
  • can't believe so many people are so easily fooled.
  • now that the dems are in control of the house, the senate, and the presidency, who are they going to blame now?
  • We should all make sure we look pretty cuz this country is about to get f****ed.
  • I can't believe America voted for a baby killer.
Countless people seem to think the solution is to move out of the country, to everywhere from Canada to Israel to Australia, and even Texas "if it secedes". One is going to Mexico: "I plan on going to Mexico to sit on the beach and drink for the next four years" Some just claim they are moving out period, apparently they haven't come up with a good location yet! Some are just shocking: "i can see the headlines now... "President Turned Terrorist Bombs His Own Country." " "in mourning and can't wait for increased taxes! no longer the white housee..........it is now the black house!" "wow america.. f***in n****" " its ok someone will probly assassinate him so dont wry bout it." Here are some of my favorite positive ones:
  • I must be a fortune teller cause I predicted this to happen, sorry McCain you tried now go cry.
  • Do you republicans need help packing? Because the rest of us are ready for change!
  • so glad America made the right decision!!! Suck it Republicans!!! OBAMA 08!!!
  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OBAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA NO MORE BUSH NO MORE BUSH NO MORE BUSH NO MORE BUSH!
  • if obama get shot its goin to be war and you dont want that trust...and if you need help moving please let me know i got tons of boxes to help.
I can't even count the number of people whose status's were simply OBAMA! or OBAMA 08 or something of that nature. Some have suggestions as to who should run in 2012 already, including themselves:
  • just wants to party my life away, no more election crap! neither should of been elected. we all should have voted for MEEEEEEEE :)
  • announcing his intent to run for President in 2028.
  • f*** em! f*** em! LIL WAYNE FOR PRESIDENT!
  • is running in 2012 cause anyone apparently can make it.
  • 4 more years...lil wayne for president!
  • mccain can't make it rain and obama can f*** a llama. ME FOR PREZZZIDENT.
And my all-time favorite:
  • WHYYY MCCAIN!! WHY DID YOU LOSE? YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A WINNER IN MY HEART BIG OLDIE.
And what, do you ask, is my status?? Patrice is choosing to have no comment on the election.. unlike every1 else I'll keep my opinion to myself, thanks :)
